A Teacher’s Twas the Night Before Christmas – Aww, Forget It
Dec 21, 2015
Reinventing the wheel. I am really good at it. I thought that it would be clever to twist Clement Moore’s holiday poem, Twas the Night Before Christmas, as a teacher would see it. Inattentive students... Too many cookies... Teachers in Santa hats… You get the idea.
There was just one problem (or maybe many.) It’s already been done. A lot. A Google search came back with web pages, pdfs, links to Pinterest and even a YouTube video. So, rather than adding yet another version to the cacophony, here are some of the fun parodies I found.
Twas the Night Before Christmas For Teachers by Joyce Luke
This version of a teacher's Twas the Night Before Christmas was the version I came upon most often. It tells the tale of what happens when someone brings a Christmas tree to her classroom.
"'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the school
Not a pupil was silent, no matter what rule.
The children were busy with paper and paste;
The mess that they made with it couldn't be faced."
Twas the Night Before Christmas Break
Twas the Night Before Christmas Break dwells on the madness that is the last few remaining school days before the break.
"‘Twas the days before Christmas,
And all through the school,
The teachers were trying
To just keep their cool."
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (Teacher Version)
Discover the modern-day Twas the Night Before Christmas, as a teacher finds a way to unwind.
"Twas the night before Christmas and up in her house,
A teacher sat staring, exhausted, at her spouse.
Her work clothes were hung in a closet without care,
In hopes that just sweatpants for two weeks she’d wear."
Night Before Christmas (Thanks for good Teachers) by Judy Bartlett
This little rhyme takes on the Twas the Night Before Christmas task from the perspective of a thankful parent. While it doesn't follow the original completely in form or length, it's a fun poem.
"Twas the week before Christmas and all thru the night
I baked for the teachers till dawns early light
I measured and stirred and measured some more...
Did not even top to wipe up the floor."
The Principal’s Night Before Christmas
Don’t think that just teachers and parents get to have all of the fun. There is an eBook available for $9.99 that tell Clement Moore’s tale from the principal’s perspective.
“Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the town
All the students and teachers
Had settled right down.“
Twas the Day Before Christmas Break
This Twas the Night Before Christmas comes in video form. It looks like it was a ton of fun to film.
Twas the Year Before New Standards
To show that you don’t even need a holiday to parody old Clement Moore, one teacher provides a rendition that we think might have had teachers smiling about new standards. Now that is a holiday miracle.
